San Luis Obispo lies along the West Coast Amtrak route. The train station is conveniently located just minutes away from downtown San Luis Obispo.

Amtrak Pacific Surfliner offers two trains a day coming into San Luis Obispo from the south. Many are new trains boasting larger windows, reclining seats with footrests, and surfboard racks. Some trains will allow you to roll your bike on and lock it up. Other trains may require your bike to be boxed.

Amtrak Coast Starlight runs from Seattle, Washington, through Oregon and Northern California, to San Luis Obispo and on to Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.

Amtrak Thruway Motorcoaches travel north to Oakland or San Jose, where train connections are available to northern California points.  Southbound buses go to Santa Barbara where train connections to southern California points are made.  The buses serve also San Francisco, San Jose, Salinas, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Grover Beach, Santa Maria and Solvang.  Limited service to Lompoc and Guadalupe is also available. Bus tickets are sold only in conjunction with a train ticket. (Bus Routes 17 and 21).

For more information on Amtrak train routes, schedules and reservations, call 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit www.amtrak.com.
